About Mumbai Veterinary College
The Mumbai Veterinary College was initially housed in the vast compound of Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, Parel, Mumbai which was established in 1883 by Sir D. M. Petit Baronet. Prof. J. H. Steel was assisted by three Indian Medical Officers and an European Farrier to conduct the teaching.

From Vice Chancellor’s Desk
Dr. Niteen Patil
Dr. Niteen Patil has taken over the charge of Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University on 10th August 2023. He is adjudged as world’s significant Camel researcher—one amongst 20 world scientists and led to NRC Camel to be 4th best Institute working on camel research. He is a graduate of Nagpur Veterinary College and did his master’s from PGI, Akola and doctorate in Animal Nutrition from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. He has more than 35 years of experience and started his professional career from Gadchiroli as Livestock Development Officer in 1985 and then in Academics from 1986 to 2000 at SK Nagar and Navsari under Gujarat Agricultural University.

Welcome and thank you for visiting our College website. Mumbai Veterinary College holds the distinction of being the first college of Veterinary Science in Asia and was inaugurated on 2nd August; 1886. In the more than of our existence we graduated our first class in 1889 and though we are a relatively old college, our graduates have already distinguished themselves in careers across the breadth of Veterinary Science and beyond.

Veterinary Anatomy and Histology
Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology is existing since the inception of this college. This Department is dealing with teaching and research in basic subject of Veterinary Science which is pre-requisite for other disciplines / subjects.
