The department during the year 1986 was known as ‘Dairy Cattle Production’. The professor & Head of the department was Dr. Pendse M.D. He was working in the department from 1886 to 1996. Under his supervision, a total of 11 students were awarded M.V.Sc. degrees. Later on, from the year 1996, Dr. S.V. Ambatkar was the Professor & Head of the DCP department. He guided 2 M.V.Sc. students and was actively involved in departmental activities from 1996 to 1998.

Further, Dr. D.T. Khdake was the Professor & In-charge of the department of DCP from 1998 to 2002. He supervised 8 M.V.Sc. students and worked on various aspects of cattle production, milk production, milk composition, and the impact of different diseases on animal production performance. He also worked as Co-PI for the ICAR-sponsored research scheme ‘Utilization of Whey for the development of health drinks,' with Dr. Kokane as the PI of the project.

Then, the department of Dairy Cattle Production was renamed as per ICAR to Livestock Production & Management in 2003. From 2003, Dr. M.I. Baig joined as the Professor & Head of the department of LPM and guided 10 M.V.Sc. students and 1 Ph.D. student. He was actively involved in cattle & buffalo management practices. He was PI of 2 RKVI schemes from 2009 to 2012 and worked on the conservation of Elite Murrah buffalo male calves and standardized the silage-making methods using plastic bags, drum silo containers, etc.

Notable Achievements from the Livestock Production & Management department include a total of 72 postgraduate and 2 Ph.D. students who have passed out and joined different departments in Maharashtra and other states. Staff members from the department attended different national and international conferences and presented papers in various conferences.
