Associate Dean’s Message
Welcome to the Mumbai Veterinary College, a constituent college of the Maharashtra Animal Sciences and Fishery University, Nagpur, an institution with a legacy that spans over 139 years of excellence in veterinary education, research, and service. Established to meet the growing demand for skilled veterinarians, our college has evolved into a center of innovation and leadership in the field of veterinary science.
We take great pride in our heritage, which began with the establishment of Bombay Veterinary College, driven by the need to address livestock diseases that were severely impacting agriculture and transportation. Today, our institution stands as a beacon of knowledge, preparing the next generation of veterinarians to not only meet the challenges of animal health but to lead advancements in the welfare
of both animals and the communities that depend on them.
At Mumbai Veterinary College, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of education, research, and social responsibility. Through our undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, we equip our students with the practical, scientific, and ethical knowledge needed to excel in their careers. Our alumni are living proof of our success, contributing significantly to the national and international development of livestock, biomedical advancements, and more.
We are proud to remain at the forefront of veterinary science research, creating a thriving environment supported by a broad network of national and international funding agencies. Our diverse research programs tackle critical issues such as drug development, animal disease management, and food safety, positioning us as leaders in the field. Our state-of-the-art facilities include the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Research on Animal Food Safety, renowned Laparoscopy Training center for Veterinarians and Medicos and Ultrasonography Units used for both treatment and training, ISO- certified laboratories, NABL accredited laboratories, Genetic Investigation Laboratory, Reproductive Disorder Management Cell, Willed-body Program, Rabies Laboratory and the country’s first Blood Bank and Coagulopathy Laboratory. Additionally, our specialized units, including the Veterinary Nuclear Medicine, Endoscopy Unit, Cardiovascular Unit and Renal Dialysis Unit have earned recognition as centers of excellence.
Beyond research, we are dedicated to extension activities aimed at improving the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers by promoting Green Livestock Management. Through our Transfer of Technology programs, we empower communities with the knowledge and tools to enhance animal husbandry practices, dairy technology, and more.
The College showcases a noteworthy symbiotic relationship between a government college working in tandem with a NGO, the Bai Sakarabai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals of the Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA), which is one of the largest animal hospitals in the world having an in-patient capacity of more than 300 animals with in-house pet kitchen and large animal feeding systems.
As we continue to strive for excellence, we are confident that the work being done here will not only address the present challenges faced by society but will also pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future. I am immensely proud of the remarkable strides we’ve made and the impact our institution continues to have on the world. We are committed to advancing the future of veterinary care through innovative research, education, and collaboration.
